Volvo: scan tool communication, scan tool, volvos

I have had numerous 96 850 volvos in and can"t communicate with ecm. I have a infocar system and i also tried generic still won"t. thanks chris

I am not familiar with any generic scan tool. I use the Volvo VST with the proper "chip" installed and it will read the codes in Volvo language. The VST is also upgradeable to read and clear codes for the newer 99 and up vehicles.
Can you call your scan tool dealer asking what is needed to read and get into the Volvo system? Maybe it will need some upgrading.
