Volvo: 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon - Transmission?, volvo 850 turbo wagon, volvo dealer

Question
I was driving tonight, punched the accelerator and shortly after found myself
coasting down the road with no power from the engine converted to moving
me down the road. I coasted off to a side road where I parked it. I tried all
gears but could get no forward or reverse motion at all. When I moved the
shifter from reverse to park there was plenty of grinding noise. I shut the car
off, tried the gears again, still nothing, and still grinding when moving the
shifter from R to P. There was no fluid leaking out from under the car at that
time. Later when the tow truck was pulling the car up onto the flatbed truck
there was fluid leaking out after the front end had been raised higher than
the rear. The fluid was dark, dirty brown. Has around 120,000 miles on it. I
just bought it used about 6 months ago. What possibilities can I expect,
prices, etc once the repair shop looks at it? Right now I have it waiting at
AAMCO for them to look at Monday morning. Is that in itself a huge mistake?
What can I expect from them vs. taking it to the local Volvo dealer? I have no
problem hearing what AAMCO has to say first and then paying to have it
towed to the dealer if AAMCO is a bad move.

Answer
Jeremy,
Your trans sounds like it let go and will need a replacement. See what AAMCO says and call the dealer to inquire about a reman trans from them. Most times I find that trans shops do not have the resorces to rebuild that trans. Volvo would offer a reman unit that they will warranty for 1 year.
