Volvo: transmission problems, neutral safety switch, odd symptoms

Question
Greetings,  My 1990 765 has started several odd symptoms recently.
1. When starting the engine it lurches...I began starting it in neutral and as soon as it starts up, it pulls forward at a very slow speed, but it will continue until I brake.
2. After stopping at a stop sign/light it "pops" in to first gear...nothing major, but definitely not smooth.
3.  It does the same "looking for the gear" when I put it in to reverse.

I have tried to find an answer without much luck, but I wonder about these symptoms being related to a bad tranny mount.

Answer
Mike,
When a trans mount is bad you get a vibration and or a banging on acceleration, clunk when shifting into gear, but not creeping in neutral or hunting for gears. Your trans is on it's way out. You can have it rebuilt or get a reman from Volvo, or even get a good used unit. You might try a shop and get someone to drive the car and give you a better estimate as to the problems. They may try a fluid flushing and make some adjustments to the neutral safety switch. That might put some extra life into the trans, but depends on how far gone it is at the moment, and if there were regular trans services done to the trans.
