Volvo: volvo D5 V70 1999 2.5 Fuel Gauge, volvo d5, fuel gauge

I have just purchased the above vehicle. I have filled the vehicle up with fuel and the fuel gauge only registers 1/4 full.When ignition switched on and off the guage drops to empty and on back to 1/4. The trip comp only states I have 175miles to refill. Is this the computer system or the fuel guage. Are the guage and digital trip linked and what could the problem be. Guage stuck or sednder unit etc etc.

Here is the resistance chart so you can test your sender and see if it has the right readings.
Volume/Resistance Empty Tank (O US Gal)  322-330 ohms
Full Tank (18.5 US gal)  8-12 ohms
The trip meter needs the correct reading from the dash gauage.
