Volvo: Faulty TCM - 2002 S60 2.4T, volvo s60, 2002 volvo s60

Question
2002 Volvo S60 2.4T

I have a faulty TCM that's not responding to adaptation procedures upon install of new transmission.  Getting both harsh shifts and flares (P-D 2-3 4-3 harsh, 3-4 flare).

Dealer says I need a new one.  Question I have is would I be better off just simply trying to reload software.  Or possibly a used working TCM (which I've purchased) and reload the software on that.  Dealer doesn't know if they can reload the software as it may be VIN specific.  It's about a $150 guessing game on this

Answer
John,
There are a lot of VIN specific parts that may not be able to be reprogramed. At this time you need to deside if the cost of trying to reprogram is worth the gamble. The dealer would know if that part is one that is VIN specific. You may try another dealer to see what they say. I think that I would just go with known good dealer installed unit. It will be warrantied and that might be worth the extra money.
