Motorcycle Repair: 1988 electra glide wont start, one in a hundred, starter motor

Question
I have an 88 electra glide that wont start. I tried replacing the solenoid, and relay. Nothing. 99% of the time it just clicks once near the relay. The other one in a hundred the starter motor will spin but not engage. The battery is good. Any ideas?

Answer
Check your connections on the battery at both ends. You might have a bad ground. Check the battery wiring, to make sure its not old and worn. With a 1989 I would go ahead and replace it. Since you say your battery is good and the wires check out, then youwill have to pull the starter. You might have a bad starter. You can pull it and have it tested and rebuild
good luck and happy riding
