Volvo: 1990 Volvo 240 Electrical, central door locks, speedometer needle

Question
Okay, I think that the battery drain is solved, now it does not start.  There appears to be spark and I have replaced the coil and fuel pump relay.  I was wondering if you have any suggestions.  Also, should I hear the fuel pump come on when I switch the ignition to the on position?

Thanks

Question -
Is it possible for a bad fuel pump relay to drain the battery.  If so, what are some typical signs of a bad relay?

Thanks

Question -
Could a loose fuse panel have any bearing on this situation?  Could a loose ground?

Question -
I have a 1990 240DL that has a couple of issues.  First, about a month ago, the battery would just discharge (after about 24 hours of sitting).  About a week before, the central  door locks stopped working.  As long as the car was driven, it would be fine.  I did a drain test and found that when I pulled the number 8 fuse, the drain was significantly less.  I left the fuse out over night, put it back in and the car fired right up.  When I did this, the power windows would not work, until I accidentilly hit the fuse panel under the dash, then they worked fine.  I drove the car about one mile, the radio stopped working, the SRS light came on and the speedometer needle started to jump.  I pulled into a space at the post office, went in, and when I returned-the car was dead.  I could not even jump it with my other car.  I had it towed home, the driver jumped it, and it started fine.  I have replaced the the battery, alternator, ignition coil, air box thermostat, air mass meter, and it is still a constant problem.  Any ideas of what I should check or try?

Tyler,
You need to trace the power drain, and see what is draining the battery. There are some electrical issues that need attention. So you found the alt not charging and replaced that, then took care of the battery all good things, now make sure all the power flows where it should and that the charging system works.

Answer -
Tyler,
Yes that is possible. There is a power flow interuption somewhere, either power or ground. Makes sense!

Answer -
Tyler,
I guess it is possible for the fuel pump relay to drain a battery, but I have not yet seen that happen. I have however seen the central locking system drain the battery. The wires get scafted on the switch and touch causing a drain.
A relay that will cause a drain will probably feel hot and may cause whatever it feeds to continue to run. Unplug the relay that you suspect and see if the battery goes dead.

Answer
Tyler,
Usually when the key is turned on you hear the pump run for about two seconds. Also crank the engine over and see if the pump runs. If it does check for spark. If you have both test the fuel pressure. It should be about 42 psi. Does the battery have have enought voltage? Go ahead and charge the battery.
