Volvo: reverse?, wrecking yards, position sensor

i have a 96 volvo and the problem im having is that my car does not go on reverse...it wont even reverse even if u press the gas pedal....and now when you put it on reverse it goes forward....any help? thnx!

First thing to do is to read the codes and see if the gear position sensor is bad. If the trans was acting oddly before the reverse stopped, I would think of a replacement reman unit or used. Get the part number off the trans and call some Volvo wrecking yards. The number will be something like 1208860.
