Volvo: 1990 240DL SRS/Wiper problem, windshield wipers, diagnosised

Question
In the last month my SRS light appears on the dash and I lose use of windshield wipers/washer, and this occurs intermittently...been to my Volvo mechanic and he said the two were unrelated, but replaced the windshield relay switch...the problem is still occuring, which is a scarey situation during monsoon season!

What could be causing this? Please help!

Thank you,
Suzan

Answer
Suzan,
Electrical problems are hard to trace when you have the car in front of you. SRS light means that there is a code in the control unit, so that needs to be diagnosised, by reading the code and repairing the problem.
The wipers, do you lose any other items at the same time? The relay was replaced so did the grounds get checked and also the switch and fuses? Carry a test light and when the wipers stop working see if you loose power to the wiper motor or not. That will help to know where the power is and also is not. If you have the power at the motor look for grounds at the motor. Try to run a seprate ground wire to the wiper motor as possibly the one on the motor has become weakened enough to only make ground occasionaly.
