Volvo: 1998 Volvo s70 Steering wheel stuck, unable to start engine, cylinder assemblies, volvo s70

Question
Hello experts

I have a strange situation.  I have driven my car today and had parked in the garage, but when i parked it, the steering wheel was turned to the right, not straight.

The issue is when i went back to turn the car on, i could not start the engine.  I had noticed that i also could not turn the steering wheel to the left, only farther to the right, and the lights all come on, but car will not start.  I think i may have done something wrong.

basically when i put the key in the ignition, i can turn the key all the way but just a clicking sound is heard, and i it is almost impossible to turn the steering wheel to straighten it out, if i do turn it when i let go it comes back in the same position as it was.

i have no clue what to do, have tried turning the steering wheel back and forth an still nothing happens, it is completely stuck and i think this is why i can't turn te vehicle on

any help?

Answer
Alex,
There have been quite a few problems with the lock cylinder assemblies on that model car.  Also the battery could be faulty and not have enought power to engage the starter. The wheel will turn hard if the car is not running. Are the wheels up against something stopping them from moving?
You will have to tow it to a shop that knows Volvo and see what they have to say. This is something that needs to be seen and inspected to determine the cause and problem.
