Volvo: S40 cuts out, volvo s 40, battery cables

Question
I have a 2000 Volvo S-40 that has cut off twice at low RPMs only to restart instantly.  First sign of problems all the dash lights came on, the radio powered on and off, and the lights dimmed.  It did that a second time, not sure if there was diminished power in the engine. I took it in, but there were no error codes found, nothing to reset.  Then while driving, the car lost all power was coasted to a stop then restarted.  I then left it with the service folks who had the same thing happen to them, but only once.  They can not duplicate, have not found anything wrong.  Suspect a grounding problem somewhere that the battery and radio come together since we have had to enter the code to the radio.  It's as if someone disconnected the battery cables.  Could it be in the ignition switch?

Answer
Mike,
It will be hard  to identify if the problem will not set codes and or do it more often. Fuel pump or relay, ignition switch security system, all could cause that problem. Maybe the shop will agree to drive the car for a prolonged period of time to help diagnosis it.
