Volvo: Volvo s40 Start/Lock/Unlock issues, volvo s40, digital clock

Hi,
I've a volvo S40(manual), and this morning the lock/unlock buttons would not work so i had to unlock the driver door with the key.
I then went to start the car but nothing happened - the time on the digital clock is flashing but i didn't notice anything else.Is the lock/unlock and failing start related - and if so, do you have any ideas?

Have the cars battery tested, almost sounds as if the battery is weak or on it's way out, or even a poor connection at the battery. The cars alarm system maybe causing the no start. Use the key in the drivers door and lock then unlock it, attempting to turn off the alarm. If that all fails a tow to the dealer will be next, the system may have a fault in it.
