Volvo: 88 240 DL screeching noise, tight one, thanks john

Question
ok.  I follow that.  There's nothing about the sound that doesn't sound like a belt.  But what is the conclusion or how do I determine what is actually causing the problem?  Are you saying that there is a belt that is too tight? one that needs to be replaced?  Is it possible that this is caused by the air conditioning system needing more lubricant?

Thanks.

John

Question -
'88 240 DL screeching noise only on (and during) clutch disengage.  First and second gear only.  Not certain if it's related to the air conditioning system?  Seemed at first with air off on start the squealing would not occur.  Now it seems to be increasing. Can't seem to isolate it to just when air conditioning is on. This morning it didn't stop until I got it in 3rd gear.  Only on clutch disengage but continues to make sound once clutch is disengaged fully.

Possibilities for what this might be?

Answer -
usually the belts

Answer
the easiest way to fix these problems is (if it was me) i would change all the fan belts ,bcuz its not that expensive, then if it is still occuring i would suspect the bearings near the clutch, or a water pump or a alternator bearing, ,but belts are highly suspect with this noise.
