Question
I have problems starting my car.  It goes through a 3 to 4 week cycle where at first the car starts up fine, then a week later does not start on the first try but starts on the second attempt, it then goes to where the following week it takes a couple of tries before it starts, to not wanting to start at all.  At that point to get the car to not die after turning the key, I have to slam my foot on the gas pedal and rev the engine a couple of seconds and then the car stays running.  I do this for a week and then the "Check Engine Light" goes on. I've already had the Air Mass Flow Censor changed and the Idol Valve but the car still goes through this cycles.  Funny thing though, and very important for you to know is that after the codes are cleared from the car the car will start running fine for a week with no problem then act up again to the point of where I've started this e-mail to you.  What do you think is going on with this car.  My guess is the car has electronical problems and not mechanical problems.  Is the computer bad do you think?  Does the system need to be rebooted?  I bought this car in November of last year and have had this problem since.  Please help.  Your advice would be greatly appreciated.  Please not that the e-mail address I'm using is not mine.  I'm using a relatives screename for now since my computer is not hooked up at the moment.  But I am looking foward to hearing back from you.  Thank you.

Answer
Lori,
I will agree that the control unit might need to be replaced. Are you going to a shop that has the right scanner to clear the codes and do this work? If so see if it is possible to reset all the adaptive areas for the fuel control unit. You may consider going to the Dealer to see if they can reset the adaptation.
