Volvo: coolant, coolant tank, head gasket

Question
Checked coolant tank and the fluid was brownish in color. Any suggestions?

Answer
Kathy,
Was the fluid always this dark color (perhaps a certain brand of coolant) or did it turn this way lately? If it just turned this color I would say that maybe there is oil or trans fluid getting into the cooling system. Have it check by a pro. They can test it and see where this fluid is coming from. Engine oil in coolant, could mean head gasket, or warped head. Trans fluid (if an automatic) trans fluid cooler in the radiator.
