Volvo: Fuel pump, fuel pumps, fuel pump

Question
What are the two wires on the fuel pump what do they hook up to,  can i hook them up to the battery and toggle switch them or will it give it to much fuel.  and if the fuel pump has a groung and a wire that hooks up to the ignition where abouts would the ignition wire be..

the black one is a ground that is bolted to the sheet metal close to the fuel pump (inside the car) , the yellow one is connected to a yellow and red wire that connects to thefuel pump relay (white colored, above passenters feet). the computer controls the relay so i would n't mess around with the ignition switch, but it's ok to connect fuel pumps directly to 12v (battery) , this is for the 1980's injection system
