Hi Ray,

I have a 1989 volvo 240 gl wagon. I recently took off the maf sensor to clean it, and noticed some oil in the air tube were the maf connects. I have heard that it could be the flame trap. What do you think. I just recently bought the car and have been replacing and working on a lot of the maitanance issues.

Also, would this have any effect on the idle of the car, also plan on cleaning throttle body as well. And how do I clear the check engine light to see if my changes have made a difference.

Thanks
Bruce

Answer -
Bruce,
Replace the flame trap and make sure the fitting in the intake manifold is clear also. They tend to get blocked up.
I would also take off the throttle housing and clean that, for the idle problem. Disconnect the battery for about five minutes that should clear any and all codes in the system.

Answer
Bruce,
Cleaning the throttle plate is more likly to help the idle.
Go to the diagnosis box and read the codes must be a hard fault in one of the systems.
Put the pig-tail into A-2 push the little buttom for 1 second then it should flash any codes. Also check the A-6 for codes. Then the codes can be eraced by reading the codes and then holding the button down for 5 seconds when the light lights hold it down for another 5 seconds. If the codes do not erace reread them and fix that fault.
