Volvo: Volvo 850 Brake Light Failure Relay, bulb failure, volvo 850

Question

Followup To the Brake Light Failure Questions...

I checked and found voltage at the failure warning sensor assembly (going to the lamp) for the center rear brake light. As I stated, the brake light does not go on but the dash failure indicator is on. This doesn't make sense to me. Any ideas?

Question -
Ray,

You have an answer a couple of weeks back regarding a brake light failure relay. You said it was in the trunk. Could you be more specific? I've got the same problem with an intermittent center brake lamp as the last guy. It's definitely not the lamp. There is not power to it. Perhaps it's the relay. I can't find it though. Can you help?

Thank you.

Answer -
Steve,
The front light relay and bulb out sensor is with the fuses, just under the cover it is, 104,108 Main headlight relay with bulb malfunction indicator. Rear bulb failure warning sensor is just under the trunk liner in the area of the left rear taillight.

Answer
Steve,
So you have voltage going to the rear brake light, ok so bulb or wiring going to light assembly. The light lights when you apply the brakes that is what warns you that a bulb is burnt out. If the light stays on all the time then there is a problem with some other bulbs.
