Volvo: volvo c70 top warning bell stays on, volvo c70, warning bells

convertible top warning bell sometimes stays on after the top is in place. I have found that if i release the button and repush it the windows will move slightly and the "in place" bell will often sound once and all is fine. BUT sometimes, no matter what i do the bell will not turn off, it rings forever, then usually by the next day it works again.  i have tried putting top fully cycled down and up again, sometimes that helps, sometimes not.
what can i do to stop bell, is it damgerous to drive with bell ringing, why does the bell ring without stopping.  What needs to be fixed?
C70 1999 convertible 88,000 miles LP turbo. automatic.

i'm not sure if it's dangerous, (warning bells and lights mostly can be ignored as long as nothing seems to be out of the ordinary: is there a manual latch ? if no, it can be dangerous if it's all automatic since the bell is there for a reason, i would have it looked at asap(volvo dealer only) or someone that does volvos
