Volvo: 1987 740 cold start problem, don powell, cold start

Hello Jimmy,  My friend has 1987 740 (gas). He has a intermittent cold start problem.  Every now and then, and it doesnt matter if it has been sitting all night or all day at his wifes work.  The car cranks but does not start.  I do not know if it is fuel related or ignition related but I was wondering if there was a bulletin on this problem or if you have come across this before. We live in southern California and out here a cold start problem just means it has been sitting for more than 6 hours.  Since you are in New Jersey I thought that I should share that with you since it really doesnt get too cold here like you are used to.

Hello Don! There is no specific bulletin for that problem. What you need to determine is if there is spark and fuel when the no start condition happens. You need to know what is missing. If you can tell me what is missing, I can narrow the problem down for you.
