Volvo: Volvo C70 ETS Fault, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
Jimmy,

I own a 2000 Volvo C70.  Back in January I was on the motorway in a traffic jam and my car kept cutting out. I call the AA who found that their were 3 faults P0101 mass volume air flow, P0172 System too rich, P1171+ faul-air metering.  I took the Car to my volvo dealer who "put car on vadis checked codes maf sensor remove and refit wiring to maf sensor and remove codes. supply and fit maf sensor and road test.  The cost was £300 + Vat.  My car was Ok for six months then the same systoms started again, I took the car back to the deals under warrantee, they reported a possible leak in the air flow but was unable to find the hole as their special machine was off site.  However the car came back working Ok.  In July I took my car to another Volvo dealer for the 66k service, I told them about the problem I was having and they reported that they suspected a ETM fault which require cleaning/replacing.

In September my ets warning light starting coming on and off.

My question is does etm related to the repairs I had in January so can I get it repair under warrantee.  If not what should I expect to paid for the repair and does a volvo dealer need to do it.

Thanks

Margaret

Answer
Hello! The ETM and MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow Sensor) are very common problems. You should have both replaced. They are separate repairs so I doubt you will get it covered under warranty unless you have a extended plan.Prices vary between dealers it is tough to tell you a price.
