Volvo: S60 screeching noise, crank case vent, wheel rims

Question
Hello:
my s60 has a screeching and very loud(bankrobbery sound) coming from the passenger side engine compartment. It begins after the car warms up and is extremely loud. Transatlantic Volvo had the car a week and said it was oil and sludge in the crank case vent...they cleaned that but there is no change. They said it was not the belts. There is oil on the rims of my front wheel rims. Any idea what this is?
thank you very much...Denise

Answer
The number one squeal problem is belts, so I would be absolutely sure the shop is correct before you believe it isn't the belts (it's the cheapest solution).  If you're sure, the next step would be to check the bearings on the power steering and compressor pumps.  When those bearings go bad, they can make nasty squealing sounds when warm.  Good luck!
