Question -
I have a 1997 Vovlo 850T.  The doors all lock when I push my key fob button, but when I try to unlock them, they won't unlock unless I use the key in the door.  When I push the unlock keyless button, I can hear some 'clunking' sounds inside the door, but the latches stay down.  Any thoughts?
Answer -
It sounds like the electric motor that accuates the locks has come disconnected or broken it's link to the lock itself.  You'll have to take the door panel off and find out which part is broken to replace it.  Good luck!

Followup--I am able to lock the door with the key fob, the doors will lock!  Also, when I use the key and turn it twoce, all the doors open.  Does it still sound like the motor?  or the link to the lock?

Answer
There is actually a seperate motor in  each door, one for each looking mechanism.  What you have just confirmed is that only the motor in the drivers door appears not to work.  When you turn the key manually to unlock the driver's door, you bypass the motor (obviously un-needed when you do it yourself).  I think the recommended course of action should remain the same, you need to remove the door panel and inspect the motor and its mechanical link to the lock.
