Volvo: transmission problems, internal mechanics, unfortunetly

Question
Hello,
I have a 1989 240,the problem is my car won't change gears when it should. The gears seem to shift hard and from 2nd to 3rd it won't change gears,it grinds and eventually it changes around 40 to 45 mph. What could cause this to happen?

Answer
It sounds like your transmission is starting to die.  The first step is to have a complete fluid flush to see if it fixes the problem.  If not, your choices will be to either have it rebuilt, or replace it with a used one.  Unfortunetly, there isn't much else you can do to the internal mechanics of a transmission short of rebuilding it.  Good luck!
