Volvo: air pump, volvo c70, solonoid

Question
Jimmy,
I have a 98 Volvo C70 and my check engine light is on.  I took it to my local volvo expert and he said the air pump isn't working properly, via the code.  What are the ramificatioins if I do not fix the air pump, i.e. decreased gas mileage, fumes in the cabin, fail emission testing.....  Any light you could shed on the situation is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello! The car will still run normally without fixing the air pump. The only issue will be will emmisions. You will not pass emmisions testing if there is a fault with any emmisions related part. It is best to also replace the air pump check valve and solonoid as well. The puprpose of the air pump is to reduce emmisions on cold start up.
