Volvo: Loss of power and Stalling problems., fuel pump filter, turbo auto

Question
I Have a 93 850 GLT non turbo auto, which experiences loss of power and stalls with increasing frequency, both at idling and during journey.  After a stalling has occured, a 20sec or so wait it would start up again without hesitation. Sometimes the car can stay idling for a good several minutes without stalling but other times it would just die at a traffic stop. More worryingly is that the engine would just cut out on us while driving. Took it to a mech whom repaired it for a vacuumn leak but the stalling persists. Could it be the fuel pump, filter or injectors?. Thanx in advance!

Answer
My bets are on a clogged fuel filter.  Especially if the car looses power and only cuts out some of the time.  Sometimes a clog can float around in the filter, coming undone when you stop, only to reclog when you drive for a bit.  Another thing to check would be your fuel line pressure, both running and not running.  By design, the fuel is kept at high pressure for efficient delivery.  Sometimes a clogged line or faulty pump can drop the pressure, starving the engine for fuel.  Have your mechanic take a look at that.
