hopefully you can help.  I have a 1995 850 GLT with the diag ports under the hood and also a OBDII by the shifter.   My mileage is reading kilometers instead of miles.  This has happened about 4 times since I have had my car (10 years), but its getting worse.  Last time, January the dealer reset it.   Is there a way that I can use the diag ports under the hood to reset it myself, instead of taking it back to the dealer and costing money.  If so, can you send me the information on how to do this.  I have been over ever volvo forum asking this question and no one has an answer.  Please help if you can.  Thank You

I'm afraid I'm not sure what you're talking about.  What do you mean by diag ports.  Also, if your odometer reads km rather than mi, how can it get progessively worse, but then be "reset"?  Could you clarify?

ok, the diag ports are under the hood on the left side the A and B ports.  1996 and up have the OBDII near the shifter.  My car a 1995 has the diag ports under the hood.    When i take it to the dealer they put a handheld computer in the B port and go to Mode 5 to reset the mileage back to mph instead of the Canadian Kpm.  Getting worse means it resets more often then it used to.  What I am asking, is there a way to reset this myself using the B port that is under the hood.

Answer
Thanks for the clarification.  It's going to be hard for you to reset the mileage yourself because the dealer has a Volvo made computer interface that communicates with your onboard computer.  To do this at home, you'll either have to obtain a similar interface device (they are availible from 3rd parties), or if you're electronically experienced, you could obtain skematics of the electrical system and build your own interface device (pretty complicated).  Either way, it sounds like your car's computer is having issues; a sure way to fix this is to replace the computer itself.
