Volvo: TRAC OFF/ ABS LIGHT, rear brakes, abs light

Question
Jimmy,

I just bought a 1998 Volvo V70awd from torchlight inc. in Parlin Nj. I recently had the rear brakes replaced and after about 800 miles on the new rear brakes we are noticing something new.  When my wife hit the brakes while driving she heard a screech noise and then the trac off light and abs light came on. The first time it happened she pulled over turned the car off and then when she turned it back on the light's were off and did not have a problem the rest of the day.  Then today she was driving and the same thing happened... we have a 4 month old and i am very concerned about this. the car has 107,000 miles on it and appears in excellent condition. When we had the rear brakes replaced the mechanic said the car is in great condition.

Answer
Hello Jonathan! It sounds like there may be a problem with the ABS/TRACS control module. It is a very common problem. Although, I would have the brakes re-checked again just to be safe. You want to make sure a wheel sensor or wiring did not come loose. Also, you want to make sure the brakes and retaining clips are secured properly. I would have it checked ASAP.
