Volvo: Horn Trouble 1994 960 Wagon, volvo dealer, salvage yard

Question
The horn doesn't work on our 1994 960 wagon. The Volvo dealer has said it will be a $900 repair job which must include replacing the entire steering wheel. Can this be true? Do we have other choices?

Answer
Hello Mike! There may very well be a fault in the steering wheel. It is a very common problem. However, you do have a choice. Sometimes the fault in the wheel is caused by a loose ground wire that can be repaired. Any technician who has been around Volvo for a while should be able to fix the ground wire if that is the problem. Or you can get a used wheel from a salvage yard. I hope this info helps.
