Volvo: RPM to Speed..., oldsmobile cutlass ciera, volvo 940 gl

Question
I bought a '92 Volvo 940 GL which is in mint condition.

The engine is still very silent after 93,000 miles. It did take me sometime to get used to it's hard accelerator.

The question: I drove a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, a 3.8 L, 6 Cyl. vehicle and once on the 4th gear, it would merge with the wind effortlessly making 85 mph noiselessly at just 2,000 rpm.

My Volvo makes an effort to touch 70-80 mph with the engine touching 3,000 rpm. The vibrations are felt through the pedal...and somehow.....I am dissapointed with a VOLVO's power. The temprature gauge also remains in the center which concerns me.

This one is 4 cylinder as compared to the Olds and this one is'nt a 3.8 L...but is there such an enormous difference?

Could soemthing actually be wrong? My friend who worked on my car said all was fine.

Would appreciate a thoughtful reply. I did write to earlier, but now I realize, that is performs better than before after getting used to its accelerator, but that's nothing, compared to the Olds :(

Answer
Hello Glen! The 4cyl engines will rev much higher than a 6cyl. The power of a 4cyl volvo engine cannot be compared with the american v-6. The normally aspirated 4cyl engine is not big on power, however it is a very strong and reliable motor that will last! If the power dissapoints you, try driving a Volvo with a turbo engine! There is a huge difference in power. I hope this info helps.
