Volvo: 89 740 wagon intermitant stall, wheel drive trucks, four wheel drive trucks

Question
I have a 89 740 wagon with 145000 miles on it, nonturbo four cyl. It has runs fine most of the time but has stalled a few times... becoming more frequent in the last week. After stalling it all ways starts back up and drives fine but the check engine light will stay on for anywhere from one to three days. I ran a code check and the only dtc that came up was 1 4 4; fuel system load signal (missing or defective). I am a mechanic but work mostly on four wheel drive trucks and am unfamilure with that term. Can you tell me what system this is dealing with or what I should be looking for.

Answer
Hey Tom! The first thing I would do is clean and adjust the throttle body. Also check fuel pressure. The regulator could be bad. There are many components that can cause this problem. I would start there first. Kepp me informed. I'll be here if you need me.
