Volvo: My 850 stalls, fuel pump relay, proper diagnosis

Question
Hi Jimmy

I have a problem with my Volvo 850.

I had to have it towed to the shop the other day .

It started with the ac blowing hot air and then the car stalled while I was doing 80 mph.

I pulled over and the car started and ran for 10 seconds and then it stalled. It happened every time.

So the guy at the shop changed the compressor and rec/dryer but it still has the same problems, and he has had the car now for 4 days and has no idea what the problem is.

He said he plugged it to the computer but got no error codes because my battery had drained. The battery drained cause the hazard lights were on for so long and I had the car sitting in front of my house for a week.

I noticed that Jim Mar had the same problem and he posted it on this site 7/1/2003 and I was wondering if you ever found out what the problem was.

Hope to hear from you
Thank you

Answer
Hello! I would suggest you get the car to a qualified Volvo technician for a proper diagnosis. I have never seen an A/C compressor cause that problem. It could be a fuel pump and/or fuel pump relay ccausing the problem. There are many other reasons, but I would start there.
