Volvo: service light, service reminder, diagnostic socket

I have an 1995 850 wagon GLT (non-turbo) and the service light has come on.  It's my understanding that this light is just a regular service reminder, however, last time it came on I had to pay for the service to reset the light.  Is it possible to reset this light myself?

Hello Allan! You can reset the service light at the diagnostic socket under the hood. Take the pigtail and insert it into socket "A" postion 7. Turn the ignition on, press the button on the socket 1 time, wait for the led to come on and press it 5 times, wait for the led again and press it 1 time. The led should flash. That means the light has been reset. It can be a little tricky. You may have to do it a few times. Good luck. I hope this info helps!
