Driving & Driving Test Tips: Turning Left, state of south carolina, readers digest

Question
I don't know if the laws are different depending on what state you are in, but I was wonder in if in the state of South Carolina you can pull into the intersection upon making a left turn. If so, can more than one car pull into the intersection?

Answer
Yes, laws are different in different States.  I have just taken a look at the SC DMV book,
< http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t56c005.htm >  para 56-5-2120.  This chapter does not address the issue of when you are to pull into the intersection.  One might say that means you are not permitted to, another might say, it is not prohibited.

I would recommend you contact your local DMV and ask the specific questions.  Always be cautious of a non professional.  Keep in mind that laws do change.  For example, here in NY, several years ago, it was illegal to enter the intersection until you could complete the turn.  The current law requires the first vehicle to enter - and then he may complete his turn safely- even if the light has turned red.

When you contact DMV, you can quote the para 56-5-2120; or just take your individual drivers manual (which I call the "readers digest version) and ask for specifics

Good luck
