I would like to know if you can kindly volunteer to be one of my experts for this project and supply me with more information on this topic. Please confirm and i will send another e-mail with some questions I have. Thank You for your time and cooperation.

Here are my questions.

1.How do you feel about child pedestrian accidents?

2.As a psychologist how does these accidents affect the lives of the children emotionally and social? After the accident and during the whole process?

3.From your experience how common are child pedestrian accidents and how are they confronted?

4.Have you ever worked in any projects or know about projects to help lower the rate of pedestrian accidents? If so can you tell me about it.

3. Do you know anything that is been done to prevent these accidents? If so what are they? %26 are they been affective?

6.What do you think is needed to make walking for children safer?

Thank you for taking your time top answer the questions. If there is more information that you can supply me with on this topic that I didn't mention in the questions, please let me know.

Thank You.

Answer
1. a bit more empathy when kids are involved but as an officer one had to maintain a reserve to complete a comprehensive investigation.

2. I believe that the degree of the injury can effect the level of stressors associated with the emotional response.  As with any traumatic incident, it can be mitigated if the child receives adequate support from the family, friends and the proper medical and psychological treatment.

3. Statistically this summary is usually consistent year to year;

Young children and the elderly are the most vulnerable for pedestrian accident related injuries. Based on population, children under the age of 16 years are most likely to be struck by motor vehicles.

- In 2003, nearly one-fifth of all traffic fatalities for victims under the age of 16 were pedestrians.
- In 2003, almost one-forth of all traffic fatalities for children between 5 and 9 years old were pedestrians.
- In 2002, 40 percent of all pedestrians under the age of 16 occurred between 5 pm and 9 pm.

I do not know what you mean by how are they confronted?

4. I have never worked on any such project.

5. Law enforcement has targeted schools to educate children (stop-look both ways-then walk across the street) a common theme taught to kids.

Another project I know of made cross walks with vertical lines across the roadway to distinguish the crosswalk in an urban setting.  this has had much success.

6. proper parentla control of a child is the definitive solution, but since a parent can not be there 24/7 onw can only hope a child will use good sense when entering the roadway.
