Driving & Driving Test Tips: Dodge Charger, 300c hemi, mustang cobra

Question
Hello. I am writing to ask about the Dodge Charger new police car. My job will be selling them, used, next year.
I plan to buy one for weekend fun driving. One thing I cannot find out is the type of exhaust and suspension system the vehicle has. I see on the internet suspension and exhaust upgrades, factory and aftermarket. But I was wondering what do you think? Spend the money on the aftermarket upgrades, or keep my money and stay with factory stock? Thanks for the time.

Answer
Wow, they going to retire some that early?  What after one year?  Anyway, I have a 300C Hemi that is identical to the Charger under the skin.

I am not sure what is different about the Police Chargers, but they aren't as unique as they used to be.  Chances are the main differences will be in the interior for more durability, and the alternator, Maybe some bushings and the struts and heavier springs, especially in back for all that equipment.  But the basic car will be pretty much like the regular Chargers.

You can put on all the same go-fast stuff, I hear the exhaust and intake is worth between 20 and 40 hp.  As to if it is worth it to you, I would recommend you not spend anything up front other than maintenance to make sure it is in good shape, and see how you like it.  You can always add the goodies later.  It depends on your ultimate goal.

If you want to beat your friends with SRT-8 Chargers, and/or Mustang Cobra's etc, then you will need everything you can find, but really the Charger/300 etc are pretty heavy cars, and they are never going to be "sports" cars.  They are great cruisers, have plenty of room, and get decent mileage for what they are, but a Mustang GT with all the goodies will still out-handle it and out gun it unless you go even deeper in your pockets for bucks.  Remember no matter who you are, there is always somebody faster, even John Force gets beat regularly!

There are plenty of on-line forums for these cars, just google Charger forum or Chrysler 300 forum etc.
