Driving & Driving Test Tips: Whos fault and how, volkswagon jetta, hilly road

Question
Yesterday I was in an accident. I am trying to understand if it was really my fault, I strongly do not believe it was, or if the other driver was speeding. I was traveling on a hilly road at the point where I was making a left I am at the top of the hill declines behind you and in front of you. Speed limit 45, I began to make my left and while in the process a car came up the hill hit my very rear right hand side of car spun me into another car that was on the road I was turning onto and then my car bounced off that car and stopped facing the right way on the road I was originally turning left on. There are NO skidmarks from any of the cars. My car is crushed in equally as bad on both rear sides (more than just a dent)if I took a ruler to measure how far in it would be probably about 2 inches. The car sitting on the road that I spun into and supposedly hit with my left side has no damage other than a little scratch, there is a pole right there but we went back last night and there was no paint on the pole or tar on my car to suggest I hit the pole and not the other car. My rear bumper ended up underneath the green car squarely. This green car that I hit on the side street is a 2000 ford i believe taurus, but could not have had the original bumper because it was black car was green. The car that hit me was a 2000 volkswagon jetta. Their damage was on the front right mainly around the headlight and a little on the side. The lady that hit me was driving someone elses car and luckily for her knew the police. I believe she was speeding up the hill. One more thing when you are at the top of the hill where I was you can not see down the hill, but because of the incline when you are coming up the hill you can see for quite some distance, I have not measured yet but we drove it last night doing 45 the speed limit and she should have had plenty of time to slow down. I feel that if it was my fault and she was there when I started the turn she would have hit the front or side of my car, just trying to figure it all out because I really believe it was not my fault. Anything I can do to truly know where the fault lies? Thanks in advance.

Answer
In California this would be a 21801(a) vc violation.  turning left in front of on coming traffic.

your circumstances it seems that you should have seen the approaching vehicle and should have timed your turn accordingly.  it may be agued that the of other driver could have avoided you by slowing down, but it is primarily your responsibility to start and complete your turn so that opposing traffic is not hindered.
