Driving & Driving Test Tips: front license plate, traffic police, traffic laws

is it illegal to not have a license plate on the front of your car? for some reason i was under the impression that the front license plate is completely unnecessary..thanks (pertaining to U.S. traffic laws)

I am from the UK and am not familiar with construction and use regulations in the US. I have looked on the internet but unfortunatly I could find no relevant information.

I also thought that they were not required on the front of the vehicle in the US unlike here in the UK where they are required both front and back, but have found no advice one way or another.

It may be that each state has it's own legislation or it may be a federal law.

You should consider asking a traffic police officer, I am sure they would be able to give you the information you require.
