Driving & Driving Test Tips: Driving Test, uk licence, test sequence

Question
Hi,

I am hopefully going to be working in Greece over the summer and during this time i was hoping to take a driving test. Firstly can i take my driving test in Greece? Secondly,if i have passed my theory in the uk, will i be exempt  from the theory part in Greece and lastly, will i be able to drive in the UK with  a greek licence? If you are unable to answer this question feel free to pass it to someone else! I didnt know who to ask! Thanks. p.s im from the uk.

Answer
Hi Rebekah,

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have just returned from Spain and should have been logged off AllExperts,

Anyway, to your question.

As Greece is a member of the EU you have the right to take your driving test in Greece - but remember it will also be in Greek! You can take an interpreter but it will obviously, be more difficult, and on the other side of the road.

Legally, your English Part 1 will exempt you, but don't hold your breath. I suspect they will insist on a complete Greek test sequence.

The Greek licence will be valid in the UK and all other EU States. However on returning to the UK you would be expected to exchange it for a domestic UK licence to update your current address, which is a legal requirement.

Regards,

Phil
