Answer
Hello Steve and welcome to AllExperts. I apologize for not getting back sooner as I was out of town.

Concerning your question regarding radar on an RV, the answer is yes. They can either use wide beam and look for the fastest vehicle, or narrow beam and aim it accordingly. Because your RV is much larger, it is an easy target for radar.

It is very common for a car based officer to run radar, who provides the vehicle identification of the violator to the motor officer along with the speed, who makes the stop. It would be quite impossible for the motor unit to show the speed on the radar unit as he doesn't have physical possession of it.

Regarding the discrepancy of the actual speed versus the stated speed, this becomes an issue of the officers word over yours.

Your concern is certainly an arguable one that you could make before a judge, although I do not believe it will help you. His radar unit could be malfunctioning, but by this time, any record would be impossible to locate. Quite frankly this happens too often.

I would suggest traffic school is it is available to you. I wish you the best of luck Steve!
