speedometer has started to jump back and forth. daughter leaving for school 500 miles away in 2 days. need to get this fixed. Is it speedometer or speed sensor. HELP thank you

This is usually due to a faulty speedometer cable, or sending unit depending on the type of speedometer you have.

I would take it to a reputable mechanic and have it checked out.  This usually is an easy fix and can be done at home if you have the ability. You can purchase a repair manual at most auto parts stores and they have the instructions for trouble shooting this and the method of repair.
