4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 1991 Ford explorer 4X4 4.0, ford explorer 4x4, simple tune

Question
Hello Carl -

Would you know this vehicle, when warmed up, I park it for about 5 minutes  and when I try to re-start it will not start. If I wait about 30 minutes, it will start right up. Any ideas?

Thank you and
Aloha
Calvin

Answer
Calvin,

This could be one of several things, ranging from a bad coil to a simple tune up.  I would do a full tune up first if it hasn't been done lately.  A weak starter or faulty fuel pump can also cause this.  Another thing, could be any of several sensors that are heating up when running, and cool down after the 30 minutes.
Other questions would be:
Does it overheat when running,
Does the engine surge,
Is the throttle response slow,
When it does start, how does it idle,
Do you have to give it gas to start it?

These are all questions that could give you an indication of which part might be faulty.
