4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 4 wheel drive ground clearance, wheel drive suvs, grand cherokee

Question
is there  any way of finding out what the ground clearance is on 4 wheel drive SUVs by way of comparison. I need a 4 wheel drive (not a truck) with highest ground clearance

Answer
Doug,

The lowest point on any vehicle is the differential.  You can contact dealers and check to see what the specifications are, but the actual ground clearance may vary depending on the location of measurement the manufacture uses.  Some use the lowest point on the frame, etc.
I would, physically, look at the vehicles you are interested in and take a measurement yourself.  I've seen two identical, new, vehicles and each one is slightly different than the other, due to slight variations of the springs.
There are some vehicles with independent suspension, such as the Montero that has extremely good ground clearance, as the differentials sit much higher than many other SUV's.
Some of the newer SUV's actually have a suspension that can be raised, or lowered as needed, such as the Grand Cherokee.
Another factor with SUV's is the size of the vehicle and how many passengers you wish to carry.

There are many factors in choosing a vehicle for your specific needs, that would make it very hard to suggest any particular one.
