Steering Column Repair: 85 z28 camaro non tilt, turn signal switch, z28 camaro

Question
Hi. I replaced the steering column in my 85 z28 from a tilt steering to a non tilt. I needed to change the ignition switch and what I ended up doing was loosening 4 bolts that I didn't need to and now things are not lining up. Basically my question is, how do you get the front housing off that holds the multifuntion switch and ignition switch so that I can realign everything?

Answer
Hi Vickie:

The non tilt columns do not separate like the tilt ones do.  You will need to remove the ignition switch (electrical part) from the tube of the column about half way down, so the rod going to it is free.  this will also allow the dimmer rod to drop out, don't worry, but don't lose it.  Then you will be able to remove the turn signal switch and the lock cylinder from the housing and then remove all 4 bolts securing the housings to the tube.  You need to remove both housings together as they are fastened together from the inside.  Then you can work on the wiper switch.  Technically there is no multifunction switch on this vehicle as each of the switches are individual parts.  If you need an exploded view of this column, email me through my company,

I hope this helps
