1998 jeep grand cherokee laredo... v8 5.2L having issues with shifting...it stutters alot and pauses while trying to shift.. there is a vacuum hose coming off the front transfer case but i do not know where the other end attaches to or goes any help?

The first thing I would do, is to change the fluid and filter in the transmission.  There are some additives that can help clean up the internal components if they are gummed up, which can cause this problem.

As far as the vacuum line goes, I would suggest that you purchase a repair manual.  They cost around $20 and are great for any repair or trouble shooting.  They can be purchased and most auto parts stores.
