4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 98 ford ranger 4x4, 4x4 system, ford ranger

the four wheel drive on my ranger doesn't work i have heard many different problems with the 4x4 system in the ranger and also the one i have but i haven't found a way to find out what needs to be fixed  when i flip the switch on my dash for 4x4 to engage nothing happens not even a light then sometimes the 4h and 4l light on dash will blink about 5 times every couple minutes then stop what could be the problem what can i do to find out what the problem is anything you know would be a great help thanks

Cj , it is most likely the motor on the transfer case is why the 4x4 is not working that is the most common . Take a hammer and tap on the motor and have someone try swicthing it .... See if that works alot of the time it will stick , Let me know thanks Adam ...
