Question
When I drive in low range 4x4, a screetching (metal-on-metal sound comes from the left front tire. It does not happen when driving in high range 4x4 on the same terrain. Any ideas on what could be causing it and how it can be fixed?

Answer
Frans,

Sounds like a brake problem.  I would pull the front wheel and check the brakes and the axles.  Also, I would check the differential oil, as it could be a bearing and the sound is transmitting down the axle.  As far as hearing it in lo-range, versus high-range, it could be due to the speed you are going.  Since high range would normally be faster, and if it is a bearing, it could be spinning faster and not dragging as much.
