4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: engine swap, math 4, 6 cylinders

Question
I own a 96 suburban with a 5.7L gas engine i want to put a6 cylinder engine in its place can it be done without a lot of cost other than an engine and maybe a transmision

Answer
A 4.3 V6 will bolt right to your transnission no problems and has plenty of power for what it is. essentially a 4.3 is a 350 with 2 cylinders missing, look at the math:

4.3L= 262.3 cubic inches

262.3 cu in divided by 6 cylinders is -43.71 inches per cylinder

Now take 43.71 inches and multiply it by 8 cylinders-349 cubic inches

So 4.3 has same bore and stroke as a 350 jus with 2 less cylinders and should bolt in no problems
