4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 96 Chevy fuel pump, electronic failure, failure points

Question
The fuel pump hum is missing but I never had any problem previously with the fuel system. Before I try tearing my truck down, what could I check (and where) for electronic failure points? The fuel gage reads full but the tank should have only a quarter, additionally.
If it is he fuel pump this is going to be expensive.

Check for good ground connection from the fuel tank plug to the frame. This would cause the gage to reade funny as you described and cause the pump to quit. If this ig good, check for power with a test light to the fuel tank plug. If no power is there check the fuel pump replay under the hood located on the firewall on the driver's side
