4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 95 Montero Blinkers auto off not working, mechanical aspect, column covers

A few days ago I noticed that the blinkers were not automatically cutting of, I have to manually cut them off after use. Only three years ago the blinker assembly was replaced at a pretty heft price.
Would appreciate your detailed input on somethings I can check or do myself.

I think the multi function switch is bad. it is the turn signal switch itself. The only way to replace this is to remove the steering column covers and get to all of the screws. If your car has air bags this can be dangerous without the proper knowledge and tools. They are fairily easy to change but can get involved if you are unsure on the mechanical aspect of the part.
